Pee-Wee Herman star Paul Reubens has passed away at the age of 70.

The much-loved actor, who has performed as the iconic character since 1977, passed away Sunday night after privately battling cancer.

Reubens’s estate wrote on its Instagram page, “Last night we said goodbye to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults alike with his positivity, quirkiness and faith. for the sake of kindness.

“Paul battled cancer courageously and privately for years with his trademark tenacity and wit.

“A gifted and prolific talent, he will live forever in the comic pantheon and in our hearts as a dear friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”
