Christian Eriksen hails ‘strong No. 9’ Rasmus Hojlund after Man United’s move
Christian Eriksen hails ‘strong No. 9’ Rasmus Hojlund as Man United nearly £72million signing of his compatriot… and reveals they spoke about life at Old Trafford on international duty
Christian Eriksen says Manchester United are getting a powerful striker by signing Danish team-mate Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund is on the verge of completing his move from Atalanta to Old Trafford after the two clubs agreed a deal worth a total of £72 million and agreed personal terms for the 20-year-old over a five-year contract.
Hojlund is yet to undergo a medical as United tie up the loose ends of the deal with Atalanta, but he could potentially play for Erik ten Hag in Saturday’s friendly against Lens at Old Trafford or Athletic Bilbao in Dublin 24 hours later .
When asked what United fans can expect from Hojlund, Eriksen said: ‘How is he? He’s a strong number 9. He’s developed a lot in the last year since I first saw him in the national team, so yes, he’s a very good player.’
Hojlund was largely unknown until his breakthrough with Denmark, scoring nine goals in Serie A for Atalanta last season on a £15 million transfer from Austrian club Sturm Graz.

“I suppose that’s why we don’t get enough media attention in Denmark, so people outside Denmark don’t know enough,” Eriksen added.
“He’s a nice guy, he’s a good player. As I said, he has developed and become just a number 9, which he played for the national team.
“I have to be honest I haven’t seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he fit in well, so yes, he’s a good player.”
Eriksen revealed he spoke to Hojlund last month about United and life in Manchester when they were on international duty with Slovenia and Northern Ireland.
“I spoke to him last time when we were with the national team. Of course I’ve said a lot of good things and bad things too!,” Eriksen smiled. “But eventually it’s going to happen.”
