La Liga’s Sevilla got off to a winning start in the first game of their preseason tour in the Americas as they defeated English Premier League side Crystal Palace at Detroit’s Comerica Park.

Fans attending the match certainly got their money’s worth as the closely fought match ended in a 1-1 draw before a sudden death penalty ensued.

Ivan Rakitic scored the opening goal to put Sevilla ahead in the 44th minute after a ball fell on him from a corner which he was able to shoot over the goal to beat the keeper.

Later in the 75th minute, Eze was able to score the equalizer for Crystal Palace, sliding silky smooth past three Sevilla defenders to beat the keeper from a close angle to complete a game that could only be described as filth of the highest order.

Crystal Palace would fire off a flurry of chances as the final moments of the match ticked away, but they were unable to beat the goalkeeper for the ever-escaping goal.

The penalty shootout was short lived as each team only took one shot before the game ended.

Sevilla also received a red card in the 80th minute when Nemanja Gudelj

Rakitic fired his second shot into the back of the net to start the shootout and put Sevilla 1–0 up.

Joachim Anderson would then walk to Crystal Palace and have to throw away his PK to keep the game alive, but he sent the ball off the crossbar to secure a pre-season defeat for his team.

Interestingly, Crystal Palace did not make any substitutions during the match.

Sevilla took Dmitrovic, Rafa Mir, Oscar Rodriguez, Juanlu, En-Nesyri and Kike Salas off the bench.

Sevilla’s next game is against Guadalajara on Thursday.
