Tragedy occurs when a five-year-old boy dies after being hit by an elderly driver in the Sydney suburb of Collaroy

A five-year-old boy has died after being hit by an elderly driver in a horrific car crash in northern Sydney.
Emergency services rushed to Anzac Avenue in Collaroy, about 14 miles north of the CBD, at about 1:25pm Sunday after reports of a crash.
Paramedics treated the little boy at the scene before taking him to Sydney Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
The five-year-old died around 6 p.m. that night.
The driver, a 77-year-old man, was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital where he underwent mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established with specialist agents investigating.
“Just before 1.30pm today, emergency services were called to Anzac Avenue in Collaroy following reports of an accident,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“On arrival, officers from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command discovered a boy had been hit by a car.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the five-year-old boy at the scene.
“He was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in critical condition but died around 6pm that evening.”
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
