Tiffany Haddish disputes ‘mutual’ breakup with Common and says he didn’t invite her to his birthday before split… as she shares miscarriage woes

Tiffany Haddish threw cold water at her ex-boyfriend Common’s claim that their breakup was mutual in a new interview.

The 43-year-old actress and comedian claimed in a Washington Post profile that it was the 51-year-old rapper who was entirely responsible for ending the relationship.

In the piece, she said Common told her their relationship was “running its course,” even accusing him of not inviting her to important events — including his birthday party — shortly before he reportedly ended the relationship.

The Girls Trip star shared elsewhere in the profile that she has struggled with miscarriages her entire adult life, including a recent one that marked her eighth.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Common’s representatives for comment.

Tiffany said she realized something was wrong with the relationship when Common (real name: Lonnie Rashid Lynn) started withdrawing and leaving her out of important events.

According to her, he scored invitations to a birthday party for Barack Obama without giving her a plus-one, and also left her out of a concert, though it was not clear if he was performing or just attending.

But most serious was the fact that he didn’t even invite her to his own birthday party.

Soon after, he broke the bad news to her over the phone.

“It wasn’t mutual,” she said. “It was more like, ‘I think this relationship has run its course.’ And I was like, “Okay. Like becoming a 50-year-old single man. Okay?”

The disappointing way the relationship ended was in stark contrast to how happy Tiffany was at the height of her romance.

She called it “the healthiest, funniest relationship I’ve ever had,” adding, “This is where I felt the safest of all the relationships I’ve ever had.”

She and Common began their relationship at the height of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in 2020, and after three months together, they went public in August of that year.

But they reportedly broke up in November 2021, with Common later giving his side of the ending on Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee.

‘[We] came to understand that this will be best for us,” he said in December 2021, describing the split as a “mutual decision.”

Previously, Tiffany delved into some of the difficult and even abusive relationships she compared her last to.

Jamie Masada, the owner of the Laugh Factory, an iconic comedy club with locations in Hollywood, Southern California, Chicago, and Las Vegas, recalled one night when she insisted on performing her set on stage, even though she arrived with a swollen lip and a black eye.

He said he had her sleep on the couch in a house owned by the club for several weeks after the incident to make sure she was away from her abuser.

The profile also referenced Tiffany’s memoir The Last Black Unicorn, in which she admitted to pooping in the shoes of an ex-boyfriend, which she later hilariously suggested to her Girls Trip persona.

Elsewhere in the profile, Tiffany described her troubled history of multiple miscarriages.

The story began with an anecdote about her calling a doctor five days after a miscarriage.

In the intervening days, she attended an Eddie Murphy party, did two voice-over recording sessions, and performed at a fundraiser and a single-mother shelter.

She even made time for an appointment with a repairman to fix the dryer at her home.

“Well, I’ll be honest with you,” she told the nurse on the phone at the doctor’s. “This would be my eighth [miscarriage]. I have a uterus in the shape of a heart. It just doesn’t hold anything in.”

The story also noted that Tiffany had recently taken parenting classes when considering the possibility of adopting a child, though her own history with child abuse made her hesitant to pull the lever.

She noted that she shared her miscarriage news with a friend, but kept it a secret from many others to avoid feeling sorry for her.

“I don’t want people to say, ‘Are you okay? Are you okay?'” she said. “Like a wounded animal, I’d rather go into a cave alone. Lick my wounds.’

But she still managed to find some lightness in the situation with a throwaway joke during one of her shows.

“My jokes are my babies,” she said on stage. ‘They are my children. And like my kids, jokes take time to develop. And like babies, I really want to make it work.”

Then, after a pause, she added, “But just like a baby, some of these jokes are going to fail.”
