Expert warns of the dangerous reason why you should NEVER  wax or tweeze your nose

Removing body hair is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong answer, and when done properly with sanitized tools often leaves silky smooth patches.

But now a medical expert has explained why you should never remove nose hair and revealed the horrific consequences that can occur if something goes wrong.

According to Dr. Don J. Beasley, an Idaho otolaryngologist, removing hair from the nasal passages through waxing or plucking can dangerously compromise your nose.

Speak against HuffPostexplains the ear, nose and throat specialist that the nose is an extremely delicate area with numerous blood vessels and mucous membranes.

He said, “Nose waxing can be an uncomfortable experience because the delicate nasal passages can be sensitive to the pulling sensation, potentially causing temporary pain, redness and irritation.”

He also explained how the hair in the nostrils actually has several important functions, acting as a filter for the air we breathe, trapping all the nasties in the air that can be irritating, such as dust and pollen.

And rather disturbingly, he also stressed that the removal, especially if done unsanitarily, can increase the risk of infections and complications such as folliculitis or nasal cellulitis.

Fellow ENT specialist Dr. Nicole Aaronson of Delaware revealed she had to perform nasal abscess drainage after patients plucked their nostril hairs and developed ingrown hairs.

She explained, “An ingrown hair occurs after a hair is removed when the new hair regenerating from the follicle cannot break through the skin.”

And it’s not the only form of hair removal that has proven popular in recent years.

It comes after dermaplaning, or full face shaving, became extremely popular on TikTok and YouTube, with some tutorials quickly amassed 21 million views on the platform.

Fans insist it “evens” their skin, making it “look flawless,” while famous beauties like Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Cleopatra would all shave their faces as part of their routine.

Dr. However, Cosmedics’ Ross Perry told FEMAIL that the videos “create the illusion of perfection without the downsides,” explaining, “Having fine hair on the face is completely normal and we shouldn’t feel pressured to shave the face just because someone else is doing it.”

“As we’ve seen with other TikTok trends, we shouldn’t start copying TikTok users’ ‘hacks’ — we should always follow professional advice.”

Dr. Ross continued, “I don’t recommend shaving your own face at home. It can grow back worse and what might be considered mild facial hair can then grow back thicker.

“Shaving your face can cause acne or skin reactions.”

Meanwhile, he said dermaplaning, a cosmetic procedure that removes the top layers of skin, should always be done “by a professional.”

The two types of facial hair

Vellus hair is the almost invisible peach fuzz that covers much of your face and body and its role is to regulate temperature and evaporate sweat.

Terminal hair is darker and thicker. Some women have terminal hair along their upper and lower lips, sideburns, neck and chin, dermaplaning can be used on both hair types.

Dr. Ross revealed: ‘Dermaplaning is a proven method of removing unwanted hair from the face. It’s a painless way to scrape away facial hair while also removing dead skin cells that contribute to skin looking uneven.

“Dermaplaning is an incredibly popular salon treatment that uses a painless blade and allows skin to look flawless while makeup is applied more smoothly.

“With salons closed during the lockdown, it became clear through social media trends that women are now trying to shave their own faces at home.”

Dr. However, Ross advised against trying the trend, explaining, “There can be big problems trying dermaplaning or shaving the face with a razor at home.”

“There are two different types of hair: vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is the almost invisible peach-colored down that covers much of your face and body and its role is to regulate temperature and evaporate sweat.

“Terminal hair is darker and thicker. Some women have terminal hair along their upper and lower lips, sideburns, neck and chin, dermaplaning can be used on both hair types.

“Professional dermaplaning uses a specific type of blade. Using a razor blade or just a blade at home can cause skin scarring, infection, ingrown hairs and sensitivity and it’s a procedure you have to do every few weeks.”

Meanwhile, he said those suffering from skin conditions such as “acne or eczema” may find that shaving their face “worsens” inflammation, sensitivity and pigmentation’.

“You should also be aware of the dreaded five o’clock shadow, especially if you have a terminal hair type, which can also be a problem with ingrown hairs, as they can lead to sore and painful bumps on the skin.”

“Remember that if you use a razor you can get cuts on the skin that are very sensitive and can lead to infection and possibly scarring.”

Meanwhile, he also warned that shaving your face could cause hair to grow back thicker and faster, adding: “Because shaving dulls the edges of the hair, like shaving your legs, it can make hair coarse and stubble as it grows back, but it doesn’t actually thicken it.”
