Hidden holiday spending fees could cost you £200
Hidden holiday costs can cost you £200
Two in three British holidaymakers could lose hundreds of pounds on hidden costs abroad this summer, research shows.
Holidaymakers pay up to three percent for debit and credit card transactions and for cash withdrawals abroad.
For example, if you spent 10 euros (£8.67) on a glass of wine, you might be charged £9.93. According to Currensea, a debit card company, a family of four could face up to £212 in hidden costs during a week’s holiday in France after spending on shopping, eating out and accommodation.

James Lynn, from Currensea, says: ‘Securing value on your exchange rate should be just as important as getting a good deal on flights and accommodation. We found that more than half of families put off figuring out holiday pay until the last minute.
“People can save a small fortune by choosing low-cost debit card alternatives.”
Free options, including debit cards, are available from Chase, Starling Bank, and First Direct. The Chase debit card offers 1 percent cash back on most spending for a minimum of one year.
The Barclays Rewards credit card has no foreign transaction fees and 0.25 percent cash back.
