Jon Jones says fight with Tom Aspinall ‘sounds good’ after Brit said it would be his ‘dream’ to fight him after incredible 73 second KO win
- England’s Aspinall stormed to a first round victory in the UFC London main event
- The heavyweight delivered a brutal TKO during his fight with Marcin Tybura
- He later called out UFC legend Jon Jones during his post-fight interview
Jon Jones has indicated he is open to fighting Tom Aspinall after the Briton said it would be his dream to fight him following his stunning win at UFC London.
Aspinall gave the England fans what they were hoping for as he finished Marcin Tybura in just one minute and 13 seconds at the O2 Arena.
The heavyweight showed his stand-up skills as he defeated his Polish opponent and quickly made it clear that a fight with Jones is his ultimate goal.
“I’m going to Paris, I’m going to sit in the front row and see Cyril Gane against Serghei Spivak, I’m going to beat the winner and then Jon Jones,” he said.
Jones is the current heavyweight champion and widely regarded by many as the greatest of all time.
Tom Aspinall produced a statement appearance stating that he intended to fight Jon Jones
American Jones quickly responded with a Tweet moments after the fight ended, suggesting that a fight with Aspinall “sounds good.”
And during the post-fight press conference, Aspinall insisted that a fight with Jones would be the highlight of his career.
‘Jon Jones knows I exist… woo hoo! That is a victory in itself. I’ve been saying it all week that another goal of mine is to motivate Jon to stay and fight me.
“It’s a dream fight of mine and I think I can compete against him well. I am young and fresh. I am tall. I’m good at everything.
“I am fast, strong and heavy. I just think I’ll bring him something else. I think he knows that too.’
While a fight with Jones may be what Aspinall wants, he’ll have to wait for the American to take on Stipe Miocic in a bout for the heavyweight belt at UFC 295.
Jones, the current heavyweight champion, has said he is open to fighting Aspinall
Instead, he is targeting a fight with the winner of Gane vs Spivac in September despite the availability of Sergei Pavlovich, a promising heavyweight.
“I’m easy mate,” he said. “Throw me with whoever. I just think that fight makes sense.
“I’ve been paired with Pavlovich twice and both times he pulled out. I’m not saying he’s afraid of me, that’s just what happened.’
