iPhone users are only just realizing what the red circle on your screen means
- When a red circle appears at the top of an iPhone, it means it’s a screen recording
- Failure to disable recording may result in large videos taking up storage space
- The recordings can be accessed and deleted from the photos app if necessary
Apple customers are at their wits’ end after realizing that long recordings of their iPhone screens have consumed huge chunks of their device’s available storage space.
Some Reddit users began questioning a small red circle that had appeared at the top of their screens, only to be later told that they were unknowingly making these videos.
Apple says if a small red circle appears on your phone screen, it means you’re recording — a feature that allows users to share content from their screen with others.
‘What’s running on my phone? I don’t recognize this red circle on my dynamic island,” said one reddit user.
“You’re a screen shot,” explained another.

When iPhone users first receive their devices, they automatically get 5 GB of free storage.
When this runs out, in many cases customers will want to pay additional monthly fees to increase it.
The tech giant offers plans from 50 GB to 2 TB at a monthly rate of 99 cents to almost ten dollars before tax.
Fortunately for customers, Apple has provided a step-by-step guide on how to stop the recordings before they take up too much storage space and a way to delete them.
If it appears on your screen, the first step is to go to the setting to turn it off.
Once there, users have to go to the control center and tap the record button which is shaped like a circle. To turn it off, tap the red circle button and it will turn white.
To ensure that the video recording does not take up any storage space, users can go to their photos app and simply delete the recording like any video or photo.
The feature has been used by social media users in a variety of ways, including recording their screens to share news stories, funny videos, and in some cases, text messages.
It can also be used to explain how to use the device, as seen in some YouTube tutorials.
