Haitian midfielder Jennyfer Limage let out a scream after suffering a serious knee injury during the Women’s World Cup opener against England.
She first appeared to have some discomfort after 25 minutes, when she held her knee after a challenge from Alessia Russo.
The 25-year-old received some treatment and tried to carry on, but minutes later was forced off the field on a stretcher and cried out in pain as she left the field.
England went on to win a surprisingly tight game 1–0, with Georgia Stanway scoring the only goal with a first-half penalty.
The injury will be a major blow to the Limage, who will probably play no further role in the tournament.

Haiti will also be badly affected by the knock as the Grenoble midfielder is a key player in the back of their midfield.
She has previously suffered injuries after tearing her cruciate ligament in 2021 and spoke in February about what reaching the World Cup would mean for her country.
“It would be a huge opportunity,” she said FIFA+. “This group of girls has been together since we were about 15 years old and we have built a strong team, mentally and physically.
“Yes, we made mistakes and Haiti is not the most developed country, but we are going to give everything to make it to the World Cup because if we make it, our country will be so proud of us. We don’t know exactly how yet, but we will do everything we can to qualify.’
They made it to the tournament for the first time in eight attempts by winning a play-off tournament earlier in the year, although Limage’s impact in Australia and New Zealand will now be limited.
England’s win puts them top of Group D, although China and Denmark have yet to play their first game.
There were ominous opening wins elsewhere in the tournament on Saturday, with Japan scoring five goals past Zambia after a brace for Hinata Miyazawa.
USA defeated Vietnam 3-0 thanks to two goals from Sophia Smith and one from Lindsey Horan.
