Kate Gosselin labels her son Collin, 19, as ‘AMAZING and unpredictable’ and says he has ‘received multiple psychiatric diagnoses’ – accusing him of ‘aggravating’ allegations that she ‘abused’ him as a child

Kate Gosselin has targeted her 19-year-old son Collin, labeling him “violent and unpredictable” and claiming he “made up” abuse allegations against her.

The 48-year-old former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star issued a sensational statement to her teenage son on Friday in the wake of his appearance on VICE TV docuseries, Dark Side of the 2000s, alleging that his mother “abused” him as a child and kept him separated from his seven siblings after she split from his father Jon.

Kate, a mother of eight, broke her silence over her child’s shocking claims just one day after her 22-year-old daughter Mady shared a lengthy statement on her Instagram Stories accusing Collin of “physical assault and hate speech.”

In her own words, Kate echoed Mady’s claims, saying the reason Collin was sent away to the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute in Philadelphia in 2016 was because he “got multiple psychiatric diagnoses.”

In her detailed statement, Kate said: “I never wanted to do this, but I feel like I’ve been cornered and have no choice. While it saddens me to do this, I must speak up now.

“My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his siblings, and for his own well-being, after years of outpatient treatment, he was placed in a facility that proved inadequate for his needs.

“The decision to admit him was made by emergency room doctors after one of his many seizures/bursts – this one where he used a weapon.”

She continued PEOPLE“Fast forward to the present, and after Jon took Collin out of treatment, my son’s unpredictable and violent behavior has unfortunately continued on a regular basis toward Jon, Hannah, and others around him.

Collins’ distorted perception of reality is one of the many problems he has always struggled with. As many people with family members struggling with mental health issues can attest, it is rare and sadly surprising when complete fabrications occur, and this is just another heartbreaking facet of this struggle.”

The former reality TV star went on to say that “all parent-child relationships are complex,” describing the situation as “incredibly complicated and painful.”

She said: “All measures taken in our home were at the express recommendation of his child psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists and were taken to protect every member of our family, our friends and our pets.

“Unfortunately, I believe that Collin is still a very troubled young man who still needs a lot of help. His siblings and I are not directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.

“What his sister Mady recently posted on social media is completely accurate and I really appreciate her courage in doing so. This is all I have to say on this matter and I will not discuss this subject any further at this time,” Kate added.

Kate’s claims are in stark contrast to what her ex-husband told VICE TV, as he claimed that doctors had no diagnosis for his son.

The former TV star, who now DJs in his spare time, claimed he spent $1 million to get his son released and get full custody. He already had custody of his daughter Hannah, who is also 19.

In response to Kate’s statement, a representative for Jon told DailyMail.com that his ex-wife “can’t contain her abusive words” towards their son.

The statement read: ‘Kate making viciously false accusations about Collin just seems to be another way for her to justify her unforgivable, horrific past behavior towards him. True love for a child does not mean that a mother publicly attacks her son.’

Collin had to be cleared by the Marines with a full background check, including mental, physical, and medical clearance from the US Marine Corp. The government’s full diagnoses clearly reflect the truth.”

He continued, “Remember, a judge awarded sole legal and physical custody of Collin to his father. Kate didn’t even show up for court and lost full custody of her own son.”

“As for these brand new false accusations, it seems clear that even today, having not seen her son since sixth grade, she cannot restrain her abusive words towards him.

“Right now, Collin is training as a Marine to serve his country and is unable to respond to his mother’s lies,” they added.

Jon’s daughter Hannah, whom he also took custody of, appeared on the VICE TV series and also made some rather shocking claims about her mother.

According to Hannah, Collin was often “separated” from the rest of the kids because of bad “behaviour” when they were younger.

She remembered that he wasn’t often allowed to play outside with them, or even eat dinner.

“He would be separated from us, he wouldn’t be able to come and play with us outside, for example. He ate at different times than we did,’ she said.
