Man United boss Erik ten Hag vows his side ‘will do everything in our power’ to sign a striker this summer
Erik ten Hag vows Man United will ‘do anything’ to sign a striker from the Red Devils, frustrated by Atalanta’s £86m price tag on Rasmus Hojlund
Erik ten Hag says Manchester United will do everything they can to secure a new striker this summer as talks with Atalanta over Rasmus Hojlund continue.
United have signed midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana in this transfer window, but Ten Hag has prioritized signing a new striker.
The club have turned to Hojlund after deciding a move to Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is unrealistic, but were frustrated by Atalanta’s £86m valuation.
“We will do everything we can to bring in the right man,” said Ten Hag. You never know in the transfer market, but we know our goals and we will do everything we can. We have made every effort to get this done as this is an area that needs improvement.
“We also proved last season that we can be very successful, even if we didn’t have too many strikers. I expect more from the front players, a high level. They have to raise the bar and we expect more goals.’

On Friday, United confirmed the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana for £47.1 million
Onana has flown out to join the club’s US tour after completing a £47.1 million move from Inter Milan. The Cameroonian has a reputation for playing backwards and taking risks, but Ten insists his old Ajax keeper will not change his style.
“He’s a personality, yes, but he’s definitely a winner and I’ve always worked really well with him and we’ve achieved so much,” the United boss added. We played great football and I am convinced of that.
“This is a better club, a better league and the demands are higher. Expectations are higher, you have a lot more fans around the world. He likes the challenge.
‘Andre can play behind a high block, but also behind a low block. It’s good that he’s here now, the collaboration is so essential and you need players in the pre-season to work on that.
“I am convinced that he will adapt and that the players will be aware and benefit from his qualities.”
Ten Hag also expects Mount to make a big impact following Chelsea’s move to Old Trafford. “He is very dynamic and has a lot of understanding of the game, both in and out of possession.
“I am convinced that he will add quality to our midfield. He will give us more chances to win games, he knows how to win trophies and he will bring that to our squad.’
