The stabbing in Newtown sparks a murder investigation in Sydney

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in central Sydney.

Police said emergency services had been called to Forbes Street, Newtown, in Sydney’s inner west on Friday after reports of a stabbing around 7pm.

Upon arrival, Inner West Police Area Command officers found a man with a stab wound to the torso.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

The man has not yet been officially identified, but is believed to be in his 60s.

A crime scene has been cordoned off and the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
