Microsoft and Sony in Call of Duty console deal

Microsoft and Sony agree to keep Call of Duty on the latter’s PlayStation game consoles

Microsoft and Sony agreed yesterday to keep Call of Duty on the latter’s PlayStation game consoles.

It comes as Microsoft hopes to court competition regulators over its £60 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which makes the video game.

Watchdogs were concerned that the acquisition could curb competition in the gaming market and mean Microsoft, owner of the Xbox brand, could limit the use of popular games on other consoles.

But in a bid to appease regulators, the tech giant said it reached an agreement with its rival Sony to keep Call of Duty on its devices.

Earlier this month, the biggest ever gambling deal moved one step closer to completion when a US appeals court said it would not stop the partnership.

In Britain, the Competition and Markets Authority blocked the deal in April after concluding it would lead to ‘less innovation and less choice for British gamers’.

Microsoft has said it is now focusing on pleasing UK regulators to ensure the deal goes through.
