At least four people shot and killed as Georgia police search for ‘active shooter’

Police are looking for a man in his 50s after four people were shot and killed in Hampton Georgia.

Authorities told WSBTV they are looking for a gunman near McDonough Street.

They described the shooter as a black man in his mid-50s who was five feet five and wore a dark shirt with a red tint and gray slacks.

He was last seen driving a black 2017 GMC Arcadia with tag number DHF756.

Police helicopters swarm the area as police cordon off the streets. According to the police, this remains an active shooter situation.

The Fortson Public Library was closed for several hours after a woman came in around 11 a.m. and said she feared for her life, according to WSB-TV. The shooting did not take place in the library.

A woman who was locked in the library at the time told WSB-TV that the woman ran to the back of the building while employees called the police.

Her cell phone was taken from her and she said she feared for her life. She ran to the back of the building and I assume someone from the library called 911 here,” the woman told WSB-TV.

Police arrived and questioned the woman before announcing a lockdown.

“I saw the police at the front of the building and asked them if we were okay and if we should do anything,” the women told the reporter.

“He let us know that there was a woman who feared for her life…,” she added.

The woman said she felt safe in the library, and around 1:15 p.m., staff told them to pack up and leave.

Heavily armed police and ambulances then surrounded the area.
