Review puts 888 licence in jeopardy

Gambling giant 888’s license is under review after a Kenny Alexander-backed investment vehicle puts him forward as CEO

Gambling giant 888’s license is under review after an investment vehicle backed by Kenny Alexander put him forward as CEO.

William Hill’s owner said the review, which could lead to a hefty fine or the revocation of the UK’s gambling license, focused on FS Gaming’s investment and its proposal to shake up 888’s management.

FS Gaming, backed by Alexander and other former Entain bosses, took a 6.6 percent stake last month.

Since then, board changes have included Alexander as CEO.

Entain is embroiled in a four-year HMRC investigation into possible violations of the Bribery Act by its former subsidiary in Turkey.

Alexander led GVC for over 13 years and turned it into a FTSE 100 company with 25,000 employees.

The Gambling Commission said it was not commenting on individual operators or whether they are under investigation.
