House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday after being ousted from the caucus where she was once the most recognizable face.
The speaker, with whom Greene is closely associated, called the Republican from Georgia “one of the hardest-working members we have.”
‘She’s a great member. She works very hard and she is probably one of the most conservative members who represents her district very well,” he told Greene reporters.
The House Freedom Caucus reportedly voted last week to expel Green from their group. Some worried that she was standing too close to the speaker. The move also came after Greene Freedom Caucus Rep. Lauren Boebert called a “little b***” on the House floor.

“I don’t know why they would do something like that,” McCarthy said. “But I’ll tell you, this Marjorie Taylor Greene. Very good member, works hard. Represents a district that fights day and night. She’s always here fighting.’
The falling out between Greene and Boebert came after Boebert filed articles of impeachment against President Biden — a move long pushed by Greene.
“I donated to you, I defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little b***h to me,” Greene told Boebert, sources said. “And you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to co-sponsor them.”
Earlier last week, Greene told reporters she didn’t know if she was in or out of the caucus and had not been contacted about her status.
Freedom Caucus member Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., disputed that account.
“I understand they voted to remove her, and the chairman has tried to contact her to let her know, and no calls have come back.”
A Freedom Caucus spokesperson declined to comment on Greene’s status.
Greene is the first person removed from the caucus since its inception in 2015.
The Georgia firehouse has been an aggressive defender of McCarthy since the speaker’s race, when it forced its opponents to get on the phone with former President Trump, who asked them to vote for McCarthy’s speakership.
“I don’t know why they would do something like that,” McCarthy said. “But I’ll tell you, this Marjorie Taylor Greene. Very good member, works hard. Represents a district that fights day and night. She’s always here fighting’

But now she is resisting leadership by threatening to oppose the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which contains more than $300 million in Ukrainian funding.
The House is expected to vote this week on the Pentagon spending bill to pass.
McCarthy expressed confidence that the bill would pass the House despite far-right demands for changes.
“NDAA is very important. We saw it come out of committee and a big bipartisan way. Above all, we want to continue our defense for this country and we want to be prepared.”
