Jacketgate 2.0! Today’s Sarah Abo hosts interview with women wearing near-identical white outfits

Channel Nine’s infamous ‘#jacketgate’ scandal made headlines in 2017 after leaked footage showed reporter Amber Sherlock demanding her colleague put on a jacket to prevent them both from wearing white.

And history repeated itself on Tuesday when Today host Sarah Abo and two members of a live panel discussion wore nearly identical white outfits.

Sarah welcomed Liberal Senator Jane Hume and journalist Anna Caldwell to the show to discuss the latest headlines when she noticed they were all wearing white V-neck tops.

“We look good today, don’t we almost all fit together?” Sarah said with an awkward laugh, before starting a discussion about the Ashes test match between Australia and England.

Co-host Karl Stefanovic later poked fun at the coincidence, telling the trio, “I love how you dressed for the occasion too, ladies!”

In the great words of the great Richie Beno, “The cream, the white, the ivory, the beige on, on the day,” added Karl, referring to cricket legend Richie Benaud’s famous cream sports jacket.

It is not the first time that a group of TV reporters have found themselves in a tricky sartorial situation.

In January 2017, footage leaked of Nine newscaster Amber Sherlock berating sports presenter Julie Snook for wearing white just before they were due to appear side by side on a live broadcast.

The footage showed Amber demanding Julie put on a jacket so the two could avoid both wearing white on TV at the same time.

Speaking to her producer, Amber said, “I want Julie to put on a jacket because we’re all in white. I asked her before we came… Julie, you need to put on a coat.”

Julie fought back, saying she hadn’t had time to change, but Amber refused to back down and snapped back, “Come on, I told you that two hours ago.”

The sports presenter later appeared in the broadcast in a black jacket and received a lot of sympathy from the public when the images went viral.

Tellingly, Amber blamed the collapse on live TV pressures 9Honey in May 2017 the experience had been a ‘learning curve’.
