A runner who suffered a medical episode on the Gold Coast marathon course has reportedly died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Emergency services rushed to the popular racetrack around 9.45am on Sunday after reports that two male runners had suffered a ‘medical incident’.
The pair – believed to be aged between 20 and 50 – were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital and placed in intensive care.

The Courier Mail reported that one of the two men – believed to be a French national – had died in hospital on Monday after collapsing within meters of the finish line.
The Queensland newspaper reported that the other runner was also in critical condition.
In a statement, Events Management Queensland thanked the attending medical team for the ‘prompt delivery of critical care’.
“Our thoughts are with the participants and their families,” the statement said.
The popular Gold Coast Marathon runs from July 1-2 and attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year for its “flat, fast and scenic course.”
