‘I went to the Sydney Games in the year 2000 and [competed] in the 100 meters,” Matt revealed.
He continued, “I said if I ever meet Tom Cruise I’m going to ask him… have you had any formal training? Did you have a coach? Bbecause when I look at it, you’re a good runner.’
Tom replied: “I’ve just been an athlete all my life, gymnastics and I’ve been wanting to sprint since I started running.
“I was like that little kid who would buy a new pair of sneakers and hit every puddle and you sprint. I haven’t had much training, but sometimes over the years I just get a little bit of coaching and have had different coaches growing up.”
He continued, “I watch people. I study and then I try different things myself and I’m someone I watch someone and then I imitate them and then I read about other people’s training and, and I train with different Olympians.”
“Well, if you ever need a coach. Let me know,” Matt said.
Tom was also impressed when producers played a video of Matt competing in a tight Lycra outfit at the 2000 Sydney Olympics alongside a clip of him running in his new movie.
