What to expect during Amazon Prime Day 2023
You know what Amazon Prime Day is, right? It is an annual two-day deal event held exclusively for Prime subscribers. In 2023 it will take place from Tuesday 11 July to 12 June. Prime Day is a big event because it’s one of the few opportunities outside of Black Friday to get huge price reductions. It’s also notable because Amazon’s massive clout is causing retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and many online stores to lower their prices as well.
If you have something (or a lot of things) on your wish list or gift list, Prime Day is something you should pay attention to. But what can you expect during the big sale if you don’t know any of the deals in advance? I’m going to give you some big hints, shy about telling you what’s being discounted.
Please subscribe first
New Amazon Prime members can get a 30-day free trial of the subscription, during Prime Day and beyond. Service charges apply to all others $14.99 per month, or $139 when you choose to pay annually. Not only are you your golden ticket to access Prime Day deals, you also get fast shipping, Prime Video content and more.
Table and board games are getting cheaper
If you’ve scouted our top board game post, or regularly follow my colleague Charlie Hall’s coverage, there’s a chance some of those products will be selling for less during Prime Day. Getting discounted board games is a great way to add summer activities for family and friends.
It’s a good time to buy gaming accessories
What do I mean by gaming accessories? Well, everything. You can expect discounts on game controllers, fast SSDs for PS5 and PC, microSD cards for the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, and much more – basically the stuff you might want to equip for your gaming setup will be discounted . I also expect the deals to extend to some popular gaming monitors, keyboards, laptops, headsets and other peripherals. We will, of course, tell you all about it once July 11 arrives.
Load up video games, movies and box sets
Prime Day is a great time to be a gamer, or a fan of movies, anime, and other forms of entertainment. Expect huge discounts on all of the above, giving you even more stuff to throw into your backlog. There may even be some deals for pre-orders.
Prime subscribers can already grab free games and DLC
During June and July, Amazon gifted games and DLC for those who subscribe and claim the goodies. Until now, Arkane Studios’ Prey And Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition are some of the highlights, but there is more. Overlook 2 players can skip 5 levels on their battle pass, some COD: War Zone cosmetics and more.
Other retailers are going to bring the heat
Like I said before, Goal, Best Buy, walmart, Newegg, and many other retailers will participate in Prime Day in some way by launching their own deal events. In the past few years, retailers have gotten better at matching — sometimes even surpassing — Amazon’s own price cuts. As such, it’s definitely worth shopping outside of Amazon if you’re not seeing the price drops you’re looking for.
Some offers are already available
Amazon’s growing string of early Prime Day 2023 deals are decent, but they don’t set the world on fire. That’s intentional; the company is holding onto its big guns for July 11 and July 12. Still, I encourage you to check them out before Prime Day as we add new deals to that post.
You can track deals yourself, if you want
Trust me when I say that Polygon does the job of finding exactly the deals on products we like and know you’ll like too. If you wake up on July 11 and go to our site, you’ll be greeted with more deals than you know what to do with. However, if you’re someone who only wants to be minimally involved with Prime Day, or are choosy about the prices they’re committed to, we’d recommend tracking deals yourself. Lucky for you, we have a post full of tips and tools that we enjoy using.
