The goalkeeper is said to have been offered £25 million a year to join an unnamed team in the Gulf state.

As he approaches his 28th season as a senior player, Buffon would discuss his options.

First he was able to leave the game altogether and hang up his boots as Italy’s most capped player and one of the most highly regarded goalkeepers to ever grace the game.

Secondly, he could expire his contract with Parma, probably eclipsing Andrea Pierobon’s record as the oldest goalkeeper in Italian football history.

He could finally become the latest notable player to make the move to Saudi Arabia, playing domestic football outside his native country for the second time in his illustrious career after his brief stint with PSG in 2018-19.

Should Buffon join the starting league, he would become only the second Italian to appear in the Saudi top flight, following former Juventus teammate Sebastian Giovinco who made 57 appearances for Al-Hilal between 2019 and 2021.
