  • She urged voters to vote for “more serious” candidates in the future

Liz Cheney denounced Americans for “electing morons” to office — and called on voters to choose better people to serve in the federal government than former President Donald Trump.

Some are still wondering if the former Wyoming congresswoman will run for the White House after she lost her re-election Republican primary to Trump-backed candidate Harriet Hageman in the 2022 midterm elections.

Cheney is staunchly anti-Trump and was one of only two Republicans to serve on the select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. She has repeatedly spoken out against the former president — both during his tenure as after his departure.

The ex-legislator blamed American voters for electing Trump and said it is up to federal voters to get “more serious” people to office in future elections.

“I don’t look at it through the lens of, you know, is this what I should do or what not to do,” Cheney said Monday at an event with the 92nd Street Y New York Global Center for Culture and Arts when asked about making an offer.

“I look at it through the lens of, how do we choose serious people? And I think choosing serious people cannot be partial,” she added.

“What we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we elect idiots.”

Specifically, the former congresswoman was asked if she would enter the race if polls showed it would hurt Trump’s chances of winning a second term.

There are already 14 Republicans in a growing field running for the 2024 Republican primary. While Trump dominates the field, anti-Trump Republicans hope the overcrowded contest can split the vote enough where the former president ultimately fails to earn the nomination.

A new national poll from DailyMail.com/JL Partners shows that President Joe Biden would beat any Republican competitor if the election were held tomorrow — but Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is putting up a better fight than Trump.

“Look, I think the country is facing tremendously challenging and fundamentally important issues right now,” Cheney said.

“Because of the situation we’re in, where we have a major party candidate trying to unravel our democracy — and I don’t say that lightly — we need to think about, okay, what kind of alliances are needed to beat him, and those are the alliances we need to build across party lines.”

Cheney joined nine other lawmakers in voting for Trump’s second impeachment following the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

She has since been a very vocal critic of the former president, which led to Cheney losing her seat in the big house in the Congress representing the scarlet Trump country in Wyoming.

Her main priority since leaving office has been to prevent Trump from ever regaining a position of power in government.

“I do believe, and I’ve never believed anything as strongly as I know this, that the most important thing for the country is that Donald Trump can’t be anywhere near the Oval Office anymore,” Cheney claimed Monday.
