Princess Mary’s son Prince Christian announces he will not accept royal allowance after turning 18
Prince Christian, Princess Mary’s eldest son, has shocked royal fans with a bold announcement ahead of his 18th birthday.
The young prince, who will celebrate his 18th birthday on Oct. 15, will break protocol by forgoing his royal stipend to focus instead on his education.
While the future Danish king is entitled to government funding once he reaches adulthood, he will not accept payments and become a full-time royal until he is 21 years old.
A statement on the Royal House’s Instagram page read: “Prince Christian’s main priority for the coming year is to complete the Prince’s upper secondary education.”
“For example, it has been agreed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that support in the Danish parliament for a law on the annual pension will only be sought when the prince turns 21 or in the event of a possible succession of the throne, if that takes place before that.”

The statement closes by saying that Christian will forego the limelight but will one day return to public appearances in an official capacity.
“Only after that is it expected that His Royal Highness will participate to a greater extent in official contexts,” it read.
“However, it depends on where the prince is at the moment in his education. Until then, Prince Christian will, just like today, only participate in official contexts to a limited extent.’
Although he has made many public appearances along with his parents and siblings Princess Isabella, 15, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine, both 12, Christian is not yet a full-time working royal.

Christian, second in line to the Danish throne behind his father Crown Prince Frederik and grandmother Queen Margrethe, is in his penultimate year at Ordrup Gymnasium, a public school in Copenhagen.
Before the move, rumors started circulating that Christian had a new royal girlfriend after they got cozy.
He enjoyed a day out with friends at the Monaco Grand Prix and was spotted with 18-year-old Princess Maria Chiara di Borbone-Two Sicilies.
Speculation about whether the two are dating started when a group photo surfaced on social media of the two standing close at the event.
The Italian heiress is the youngest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, and Princess Camilla, Duchess of Castro. Her parents are also close family friends with Crown Princess Mary, 54, and Crown Princess Frederik, 55.
Chiara and her sister Princesses Carolina, 19, enjoy the Grand Prix and keep fans updated on their glamorous lives by sharing photos online.

This is reported by a Danish source Women’s Day: Christian is only four months away from his 18th birthday and he’s interested in a real girlfriend, mainly to ward off wannabe fans, but he also likes the idea of having a real life companion.
Chiara ticks all the boxes – she’s funny, intelligent and very well connected through her social media. Of course, Mary would love to see him date someone like Chiara, who, despite appearing to live a jet-set lifestyle, has never had a hint of scandal, and neither has her older sister Carolina.’
The source also seemed certain that the two are dating.
‘Christian is certainly taken with Chiara – it remains to be seen if she feels the same way. For the time being they get along well, both families agree and they have much the same taste in music, sports and even film.’
Fans will likely be watching closely for any more footage of the two teens together.

It was reported late last month that Princess Mary’s cousin, Count Nikolai of Denmark, is moving to Australia to attend university, months after his grandmother stripped him of his HRH royal title.
Handsome model Nikolai, 23, is going to study for a semester at UTS in Sydney, accompanied by his glamorous design girlfriend Benedicht Thoustrup.
The couple lives together in Copenhagen and will move to Sydney from August 1 to November 30 to study.
Nikolai, whose father is Prince Joachim of Denmark, is seventh in line to the Danish throne.
In March, Count Nikolai of Denmark launched a new Instagram account to promote his modeling career after being stripped of his ‘HRH’ status by his grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
It has been a tumultuous year for the Danish royal family after the monarch controversially usurped the title from Prince Joachim’s eldest son, as well as the titles of Prince and Princess from his younger children Athena, 11, Prince Felix, 20, and Prince Henrik. 13.

They are now count and countess and are referred to as their excellencies – and in January this year, the Danish royal family updated their website to show the new status.
The Queen stressed that the move “will be good for them in their future” and will allow the children – who have retained their position in the line of succession – to “shape their own lives without being constrained by the special considerations and duties’ which implies a formal affiliation with the Danish royal family.
The news of the royal family’s arrival in Australia was confirmed to the Danish publication BT by press advisor Helle von Wildenrath Løvgreen.
BT reports that the pair are currently looking for an apartment in Sydney to live in and both have studied at Copenhagen Business School and in Paris on exchange.
