Newcastle ‘contemplating a move for Feyenoord defender David Hancko’, with Slovakia international seen as a solid cover option at centre-back

Newcastle are considering Feyenoord defender David Hancko as cover for left back.

The 25-year-old played an important role in the Dutch team’s Eredivisie title win last season, playing 28 league matches in the campaign.

He has also become a regular for Slovakia, with 27 caps since his debut in 2018.

Hancko’s career started in his home country with Zilina and only joined Feyenoord last summer after spells at Sparta Prague and Fiorentina.

He could be on his way again now, with Santi Aouna reports that Newcastle have shortlisted the defender.

Hancko is regarded as a solid squad at the back, with Eddie Howe keen to add depth as his side prepares for the added thrills of Champions League football.

Crystal Palace’s Joachim Anderson is also eyeing, a potential move aided by the Eagles’ interest in Torino’s Perr Schuurs.

The Magpies have also been looking to bolster their midfield, with sporting director Dan Ashworth currently in Italy trying to complete a £55 million transfer for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

He has been dubbed the ‘new Pirlo’ as both midfielders started at Brescia before joining Milan, but he is a more industrious player than the Italian legend and could be key to nurturing the likes of Bruno Guimaraes if he signs.

Tonali himself does not seem keen on leaving the San Siro, although the decision may be taken out of his hands.

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is another Newcastle target, with the full-back expected to cost around £35 million after an excellent 2023/23 season.

Newcastle are joined in their pursuit by Marseille and Man City and the US international is unlikely to stay at Craven Cottage with 12 months to go.
