There’s a next-gen Furby, just in time for the original’s 25th birthday

Furby is back with an all new brain, fur and vibe. Hasbro has launched a new Furby in purple and coral, debuting first on Amazon for $69.99. It will be available at other stores from July 15.

Whether you asked for a new Furby or not, it’s here, with some of the trappings of modern electronic gadgetry. For example, it has a microphone (but isn’t connected to the internet) and supports five voice commands that activate it to dance, predict your future, copy your voice, perform a light show, and one called “Let’s Chill,” in which Furby can join you in a meditation session (seriously!).

In addition to using your voice, you can interact with the new Furby by hugging, petting, tickling his tummy, shaking, or feeding him with the plastic Pizza Charm he wears around his neckless body. This new Furby model has over 600 reactions in Furbish for you to decode.

The new Furby isn’t bothered by looking like a creepy, expressionless animatronic like the original. That said, it hardly resembles the Furby of yesteryear; the design is an almost complete overhaul, brimming with color and trinkets. I think it’s an improvement, although there was some charm to the homeliness of the older one.
