Queensland Police poked fun at Richmond fans and players after the Tigers lost an epic elimination final against Brisbane in dramatic circumstances on Thursday night.

The Lions and the Tigers traded 32 goals at the Gabba, with the lead changing 17 times in what will go undoubtedly go down as a modern finals classic.

Leading by four points with a minute left, Richmond’s hearts were broken as an attempted spoil went awry, allowing Brisbane forward Joe Daniher to stab the ball home from close range to secure a 16.10 (106) to 16.8 (104) win.

Daniher’s match-winning goal came just over a minute after Richmond were denied a major which would have effectively won the game for them.

Up by three points with two minutes to go, the Tigers looked to have booked a place in the semi-final as Tom Lynch booted his fourth major of the night.

Lynch didn’t celebrate but the goal umpire gave a ‘soft’ call of a goal to his angled set shot before it was sent upstairs for review.

Despite not finding conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision, the goal was overturned to a behind after the footy was adjudged to have sailed above the upright.

That left Richmond up by four points instead of nine and allowed the Lions just enough time to snatch a dramatic win.

Brisbane will play the loser of the qualifying final between Melbourne and Sydney next Friday.
