Adele Roberts QUITS BBC Radio 1: Presenter reveals she’s stepping down after eight years

Adele Roberts LEAVES BBC Radio 1: Presenter reveals she is stepping down after eight years in massive hosting shake-up

Adele Roberts has announced she is leaving BBC Radio 1 after eight years.

The 44-year-old presenter has hosted the Weekend Breakfast Show since 2020 and previously fronted the channel’s Early Morning Breakfast Show.

But on Wednesday, the BBC announced Adele would be leaving her show to pursue other projects, with Sam MacGregor and Danni Diston taking over as the show moves from London to Cardiff.

Bosses added that listeners “will continue to hear Adele’s voice on the radio as she remains part of the BBC family.”

Adele first joined the BBC in 2012 as a presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra before joining Radio 1 in 2015 as the presenter of the station’s Early Breakfast show.

She took over the Weekend Breakfast Show in November 2020 as part of a major presentation shake-up, and has already recorded her last show for Radio 1.

Aled Haydn Jones, head of Radio 1, said: ‘Adele is deeply loved by the Radio 1 family and the public.

“She always puts others first; whether it’s key workers during the pandemic on her show, other people’s health during her own cancer diagnosis, or supporting her colleagues at the station.

‘Adele ended her run of shows on Radio 1 while continuing to do all this. She goes above and beyond for others and I want to thank her so much for everything she has done for the station over the past eight years.”

Sam and Danni will join forces to co-present BBC Radio 1’s new Weekend Breakfast show, which will move from London to Cardiff as part of the BBC’s Across The UK plans.

The pair join forces for their first weekend show, which will be broadcast on Saturday, September 9.

They said: ‘We are SO excited to officially join the Radio 1 family! Having our own show is something we’ve both dreamed about since we can remember!

‘Weekend Breakfast is always a big laugh, the listeners are great and we can’t wait to get started!

“It means so much to us that we will be broadcasting live from BBC Cymru Wales in Cardiff.

‘It’s the city where we became best friends, started presenting together and now the city we proudly call home. It’s going to be so much fun to bring the first daytime Radio 1 show to Wales, LETS DO THIS!’

Adele was diagnosed with stage two colon cancer in October 2021 and was cleared by doctors last June.

In April, she broke the world record time for completing the London Marathon with an ostomy pouch.

It comes after Adele said receiving early treatment for colon cancer “saved her life.”

She has given her support to a new campaign to raise awareness about the symptoms of the condition.

The former Big Brother star, who has documented her treatment on social media, shared how she was “embarrassed” to contact her doctor when she first noticed her symptoms.

She said: ‘It took me a while at first to work up the courage to call my GP. My symptoms seemed like things I could explain away. I didn’t want to be a burden to the NHS and I was ashamed. I shouldn’t have worried.

‘My GP took my concerns seriously, put me at ease and also offered me a home test kit. This meant I could take the test in the comfort of my own home.

“Soon after that, I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer, which almost progressed to stage 3. Getting the help I needed on time saved my life.

“If you’re concerned speak to someone. Early detection saves lives and it helped save mine.”
