The three-part Netflix series, released June 7, explores Arnold’s journey from Austria to America and from athlete to actor to American politician.
The third installment of the limited series takes a closer look at the end of his marriage to journalist Maria Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family.
They split in 2011 after he revealed his affair with Mildred Baena, which resulted in the birth of a secret son, Joseph Baena, 25.
Director Lesley Chilcott revealed that she spoke with Shriver while making the documentary.
“We talked, we talked a few times,” she said Yahoo Entertainmentadding that Maria “politely refused” to participate in the project.
Maria and Arnold’s four children, Katherine, 33, Christina, 31, Patrick, 29, and Christopher, 25, also did not appear in the documentary. Joseph appears in a scene in the third episode where he is working out in a gym with his long-lost father.

Chilcott also revealed that the Terminator star was “emotionally drained” after filming the scenes where he admits to fathering a child out of wedlock with the maid who was the same age as his youngest child with Maria.
He confessed to the affair during a marriage counseling session in 2011, where he had the counselor break the devastating news to his wife.
When it came time to tell that part of his story in Arnold, he had to be very careful.
“It’s hard for him to talk about the affair because he can’t talk about it without someone feeling hurt. That was a pretty serious offense,” Chilcott noted.
