Arsenal failed in their bid to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz to ease their midfield injury crisis.

The 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract and can sign a pre-contract with another club in January, was keen to go but Villa rejected three bids from the Gunners, the last being £25m plus add-ons.

Arsenal allowed Hector Bellerin to join Barcelona on a free transfer with a 25 per cent sell-on clause for the 27-year-old right back. He took a pay cut to sign a one-year deal with Barca, where he came through the academy.

WOLVES completed a loan swoop for Metz midfielder Boubacar Traore, 21, with an option to buy for £9.5m.

FULHAM signed Willian and left back Layvin Kurzawa, and signed former Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius from Benfica for £4.25m. They also made two unsuccessful bids for Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz.

EVERTON allowed Andre Gomes to join Lille on loan before signing James Garner from Manchester United in a £15.5m deal and finally secured the £2m signing of Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain.

Gueye, who left Everton in 2019, said: ‘There is no better feeling than coming back home. I am very happy to be here at Everton.’
