Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier scored a bizarre own goal for the Ivory Coast in their last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
His side lost to a 3–0 loss to Zambia, their first of the qualifying group, with Aurier scoring an own goal to kick things off.
In the 31st minute, the Nottingham Forest fullback slipped to intercept a pass and send the ball towards his own goal in the air.
Unfortunately for Aurier, his goalkeeper Charles Folly Ayayi was unable to prevent the ball from going into the back of the net as it slipped through his hands.
Leicester striker Patson Daka doubled Zambia’s lead in the 48th minute before Kings Kangwa scored a third to see Zambia emerge victorious.

Aurier’s own goal drew attention on social media when Tottenham fan account The Spurs Web tweeted: ‘This was a Serge Aurier own goal’.
This was added by Spurs fans in the replies, with many standing up for their former defender.
One user said, “What the hell is that keeper doing?” while another added: ‘The keeper is more to blame here than Aurier… keep miserably!’.
However, other fans weren’t so defensive when one Tottenham supporter laughed at the idea of Spurs re-signing the defender, writing: ‘And there were those who said we should bring this man back’.
Aurier and his side know they will finish at least second in their group when they play against Lesotho in September’s final qualifier.
They will hope that the Comoros can do them a favor and beat Zambia to give them a chance to top Group H.
