Amanda Bynes, 37, is ‘detained by police for a mental health evaluation in Los Angeles’

Amanda Bynes was reportedly detained Saturday by Los Angeles Police Department officers for a mental health evaluation TMZ.

The former Nickelodeon star, 37, was recently released from a mental health facility in April after being placed in a psychiatric prison for three weeks for roaming the streets of LA naked and appearing to be in a manic state.

This Saturday, the She’s The Man actress was handcuffed outside her residence, with law enforcement sources telling the outlet they were responding to a call from “a woman in distress.”

TMZ reported that the woman was Bynes herself, with the sources adding, “she was taken to a police station where a professional medical unit was on hand to monitor her and determine if she needed further treatment.”

Eyewitnesses who saw the incident unfold told the publication that Amanda was “calm while interacting” with LAPD officers, but “looked defeated when they interacted with her.”

DailyMail.com has reached out to Bynes representatives for comment.

Bynes was then placed in the back of one of the police cars that had arrived at the scene. However, it is unclear whether officers had “escorted” the star from her hometown, or whether she was met by police outside.

TMZ also reported that it is not known at this time if Amanda was released after an evaluation or taken to a hospital for a 5150 holding, which is for individuals held in custody for a period of 72 hours for psychiatric hospitalization.

Her latest mental health evaluation comes just months after the actress was placed in a mental health facility in March for allegedly wandering the streets of Los Angeles for four days after her vehicle was towed in the Long Beach area.

TMZ earlier reported at the time that she was wandering the streets naked at one point, with eyewitnesses stating that Bynes herself “swung down a car and told the driver she was coming off a psychotic episode,” then called 911.

After being captured, Amanda was initially held in a psychiatric facility for 72 hours, which was initially extended while her team at the mental health facility developed a treatment plan for her.

After three weeks of treatment, she reportedly worked with facility staff to determine if she was ready to return to her normal routines and checked herself out of the hospital for an outpatient treatment program.

“Amanda left the medical facility on her own recognizance,” a source told Dailymail.com at the time. “She was very cooperative, participated in her recovery, and the staff supported her decision to leave as she successfully completed the treatment program.”

Bynes has been advised to continue to distance herself from her former fiancé, Paul Michael, the source said, adding that “her family and friends believe her breakup was a catalyst in her breakdown and that he is not a sane and safe person.” is’ for her nearby.’

The source went on to say that the former couple were “co-dependent on each other and the latter part of their relationship was toxic, in part due to the fact that they met in rehab. They replaced their addiction to substances with addiction to each other.’

Sources also told Dailymail.com in March that “she has been advised to continue to distance herself from” Michael.

The couple initially announced their engagement in February 2020, but they reportedly split only three weeks later. However, in March, Amanda announced her pregnancy with her lawyer who stated later in May that she was not expecting her first child.

Earlier this year in April, her ex-fiancé, Paul Michael, claimed that both he and Amanda had split just days before her mental breakdown in March.

While reflecting on the end of their chaotic romance, the actress’s former partner claimed that two weeks before she walked the streets of Los Angeles nude, she was “disappeared for three days” before she “came home with another man.”

He continued to tell TMZ that “they argued” and Bynes, whom he reportedly first met in November 2019 at Alcoholics Anonymous, “said she ‘didn’t care about him anymore’.”

After he quit, he “packed his things and left their house.” Michael recalled feeling blindsided by her behavior when she “seemed stable” and focused on becoming a nail technician after enrolling in a cosmetology course.

He speculated that something may have happened to her because she “seemed like a different person” during their last meeting.

After her three-week stay in the mental health facility, sources close to the Hairspray actress told me TMZ last month in May that the star wasn’t having an easy time adjusting back to her normal life.

The insiders informed the outlet that Bynes went back to living alone after checking out of the hospital, stating “she doesn’t have many people in her life.”

They added that “Amanda hasn’t focused on some of the passions she had before,” including nail tech and fashion.

Despite the difficulties, the sources told TMZ that Bynes has “attended her outpatient treatments, seen therapists and taken her medication.”

Bynes was previously under guardianship since 2013, but it ended last year in March 2022.

TMZ previously reported that Bynes’s parents were not considering setting up another conservatory, as she was doing relatively well prior to her mental health crisis in March this year.

The original scheme began in 2013, after she was involuntarily committed following multiple run-ins with the law that began a year earlier.

She had two hit-and-runs, as well as a DUI, in 2012, and she was later arrested in 2013 for allegedly throwing a bong out the window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment.

Known for starring on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show from 1999 to 2002, Amanda also appeared in hit films such as She’s The Man (2006) and later Easy A (2010) and the musical Hairspray (2007).
