Reigning IndyCar champion Will Power pushed Scott Dixon after the two were involved in a crash on Saturday that left both cars badly damaged during practice at Road America.
Dixon, the six-time IndyCar champion, had spun on track and re-entered the track ahead of Romain Grosjean and Power. Dixon allowed Grosjean enough room to get by, but as Power approached, the gap narrowed and Power was unable to avoid hitting Dixon.
The two cars went off course and Power crashed into a concrete wall. Both cars were extremely damaged, with just three hours to rebuild them ahead of qualifying.
Power then got out of his car, exchanged words with Dixon and pushed him in the chest. Power later kicked the air in frustration.
“Scott moved abruptly and I was coming,” Power said. “It’s a very unfortunate incident. Nothing I could really do there. Didn’t expect him to move. Such a pity. I felt like we had a pretty good car. We’ll rebuild it and see what happens.’

Dixon admitted he was wrong.
“I didn’t know Power was even there,” Dixon said. “I’m really sorry for him and of course for his team. Error on my behalf. I feel frustrated because I obviously wrecked our car and his car.”
Power’s tough day continued into Saturday afternoon qualifying. He qualified 22nd in the 27-man field and will sit alongside Dixon, who qualified 23rd. Dixon ended up using an all-new car for qualifying.
Discussing his frustrations at the end of the day, Power’s anger wasn’t just directed at Dixon.
He wasn’t happy with the conditions at Road America after last fall’s rebuild.
“This track is horrible when you go off,” said Power after going off course in qualifying. They do terrible work here.
“They need to pick up their game. However you go, you almost break your back every time. I did it a few times this weekend. I need a kick in the ass for this place.”
Power was not happy with Grosjean either.
“Grosjean is a piece of c**p, if you saw what he did in practice,” said Power. “He needs a slap in the face.”
