Sam Allardyce hints Manchester City WILL beat Arsenal in signing Declan Rice… with Kalvin Phillips used as makeweight in Hammers captain deal

  • Arsenal are leading the race to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice summer
  • But Sam Allardyce believes the midfielder will join treble winners Man City
  • He has suggested that Kalvin Phillips will join the Hammers as part of the deal

Sam Allardyce has hinted that West Ham captain Declan Rice will join Manchester City this summer and that Kalvin Phillips will be included in the deal.

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Rice despite a £90 million opening bid rejected by the Hammers.

However, Pep Guardiola’s City have emerged as shocking rivals to compete for the England international’s signature.

And Allardyce believes Rice will leave for the Etihad this summer, while Phillips will head the other way after just one year at City.

Asked where Rice is going with Tim Sherwood, the 68-year-old, who recently left Leeds, said: from William Hill Podcast: ‘ManCity. Someone will go back the other way.’

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss Sherwood then replied: “(It) won’t be Rodri.

“Pep will give him (Phillips) a chance,” with Allardyce nodding when asked if the former Leeds midfielder could go to the London Stadium.

Mail Sport reported on Friday that Arsenal will make an improved £100m bid for Rice, a bid closer to West Ham’s valuation.

The new offer is expected to guarantee West Ham £90 million plus additional payments bringing the total deal to £100 million.

However, sources claimed on Thursday that the overall value of the bid is not the only remaining issue to be resolved before Rice can complete his move to the Emirates.

While Arsenal are confident they will secure a deal for No. 1 target Rice, their urgency to secure a deal has accelerated as Manchester City emerged as interested in the England midfielder and are considering a bid.

Sources have indicated that City’s interest is not as advanced as Arsenal’s. Manchester United and Chelsea also have an interest in Rice.

The growing interest in the midfielder will benefit West Ham chairman David Sullivan, who is looking to spark a bidding war for his prized assets. But Arsenal believe the 24-year-old’s preference is to join them.
