Carrie Fisher posthumously stars as a good witch in the trailer for her final film Wonderwell

The trailer for the late actress Carrie Fisher’s latest film, Wonderwell, was released Friday by Strange Quark Films.

After seven years, the fantasy film directed by Vlad Marsavin will be released in theaters on June 23, followed by a digital release.

The project is Fisher’s last film – she made it into production just weeks before her death in late 2016 at the age of 60.

The film is set in a setting that combines contemporary Italy with an imaginative world.

It is a coming-of-age story that follows Violet (played by Kiera Milward), a curious girl living in Italy with her American parents and older sister, Savannah (played by Nell Tiger Free).

When Savannah is chosen as a model for fashion designer Yana’s (played by Rita Ora) label, the family of four is prompted to travel to a medieval village for a photo shoot.

The minute and a half trailer begins with Violet chatting with Daniele before going for a walk, where she discovers “the other side,” a whimsical world of wonder.

An official logline for the movie reads, “Violet, neglected and bored, wanders from the old Tuscan town to a nearby forest where she meets the enigmatic Hazel (played by Fisher), who may be the legendary witch of the forest that Violet was warned about. . Yana’s beleaguered stepson, Daniele (Sebastian Croft).’

Upon meeting Hazel, Violet asks in surprise, “Are you the witch?”

Hazel, red-haired and dressed in colorful clothing, asks Fisher’s character back: “The witch or a witch?’

The synopsis goes on to say, “Violet is led to a mysterious portal by Hazel and given a glimpse of what her future might hold, but like the transition from childhood to womanhood, it can be a journey of no return.”

The trailer intensifies when Rita’s character – a striking woman with white short, platinum white hair who always dresses in black – appears.

“We need to talk,” Yana says firmly to Hazel, who replies, “Nice to meet you here.”
