Fire Emblem arrives in Nintendo Switch Online’s GBA collection on June 23

The first Fire Emblem game to be released outside of Japan Fire emblem for the Game Boy Advance, will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack next week, June 23.

Also known as Fire emblem: the burning blade, the 2003 game was actually the seventh entry in the tactical role-playing game series. Nintendo decided to try localizing it for an international release after successfully bringing developer Intelligent Systems’ other great strategy series to a global audience with 2001’s Progress wars.

The burning knife was the debut of the popular character Lyn, who appears in the latest release Enable fire emblem as the emblem of Blazing. Like all pre-2012 Fire Emblem games Awaken fire emblem, it contains character permadeath that cannot be disabled; as the press release puts it, “When your soldiers meet their end in this Fire Emblem game, they’re gone forever.”

Nintendo has been steadily working on the list of games it said would be coming to the Game Boy Advance collection for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers when the library was added to the service in February.
