In April this year, a baby elephant was found in Thailand guarding the body of her dead mother after eating poisonous crops.
11-month-old elephant Park Mae Mae escaped from her enclosure with her mother Moke Chue, 31, and wandered into a plantation to feed on maize in Tak province.
But her mother unknowingly ate crops that had been heavily sprayed with pesticides and fertilizers, which are believed to have poisoned the adult jumbo.
The orphaned Park Mae Mae was discovered about 12 hours after her mother died by villagers, who refused to leave the elephant’s body.
Footage shows the confused baby elephant next to her collapsed mother stroking her back with his trunk.
