CCTV footage captures the shocking moment a brazen thief steals unsuspecting drinker’s bag from a busy restaurant

This is the shocking moment when a brutal thief steals an unsuspecting drinking bag from a busy restaurant.

The theft – which takes place in the luxurious Bloomberg arcade in central London – lasts just ten seconds and neither of the two men at the table realizes that the black rucksack has disappeared.

The thief takes the bag in plain sight – in full view of other diners in the dining room.

City of London Police said: ‘These CCTV footage may seem unbelievable, but it was a real crime in the City.

“Bag thieves take every opportunity to steal your belongings.

The theft – which takes place at the luxurious Bloomberg arcade in central London – lasts just ten seconds and neither of the two men eating dinner realize that the black rucksack has disappeared.

“When you’re out tonight, always know where your bag is and if you see anyone acting suspiciously, contact the police.”

The thief is wearing a bright blue polo shirt and appears to be talking on the phone. He sees the bag on the floor next to its owner, who is having a conversation with another man over food and drink.

After looking up again to make sure he hasn’t been seen, he casually picks it up and quickly wanders off.

He leaves the poor victim unaware that his belongings have been taken and the pair continue their conversation as if nothing had happened.

More than 12,350 bags were stolen in London between December 2022 and February 2023, shocking Freedom Of Information data from Time-out revealed.

This included 4,360 in December and 4,120 in the first weeks of the year.

The highest number of bag thefts in any borough occurred in Westminster, where 3,032 were stolen in just three months – almost a third of all thefts in London at the time.

And in some West End pubs, as many as ten thefts take place a month.
