Jeremy Finlayson put on a show on Thursday night as the Port Adelaide star kicked a goal in front of his fun-loving wife Kellie against Geelong.

The Footy power couple have been on a roller coaster journey since November 2021, when mom of one Kellie was diagnosed with stage four colon and lung cancer. Doctors told her the disease was terminal.

However, it was revealed late last month that she could be cancer-free within three months after a remarkable turnaround caused doctors to “fix” her prognosis.

And Kellie was in the stands at Adelaide Oval to support her husband, who plays as a striker for Port Adelaide, in their game against the reigning premiers.

Her latest health development was so unexpected that the 27-year-old revealed that even her oncologist had a hard time believing it.

“After all the chemotherapy I’ve had, they did a CAT scan […] all the scans and they came back with no activity,” she told The Adelaide Advertiser.

“Of course, with the prognosis I had, we didn’t think that would happen. My oncologist called me […] he’s like, “This is crazy” […] he was shocked – I’m really lucky.’

Finlayson, who married the Port Tall in a surprise ceremony in March, said doctors believe the cancer is now small enough to be killed by chemotherapy.

She explained that she will have to undergo a few more rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and then she can get everything clear.

“In three months I could technically be cancer-free again,” she said.

‘I do not have that [cancer] really hanging over me – I don’t really think I did it from the start.”

Kellie began experiencing abdominal pain and constipation as early as three months after Sophia was born in August 2021, but initially dismissed the symptoms as postpartum issues.

She was then diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and after the first rounds of treatment she was told the cancer had spread to her lungs.

Although her cancer was considered terminal, she was never given a detailed time frame of the course of the disease.
