Sunrise host Matt Shirvington reveals the grim details of his schoolies week

New Sunrise presenter Matt Shirvington reveals the details of his very tame school week: ‘I was on the phone with Jess every day’

Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington was a devout athlete for much of his early life, and that dedication extended even through Schoolies Week.

The new Sunrise presenter, 44, revealed on Tuesday that he was taking the traditional holiday at the end of high school in Perth to take part in the Pacific School Games instead of partying.

To make things “boring,” he spent every minute of his free time “on the phone with my girlfriend,” according to Jessica, whom he has since married. Now Perth.

“Schoolies week for me was spent in Perth at the Pacific School Games and I competed in New South Wales against the nations in the games,” he said.

“Every day I was on the phone with Jess, my current wife, going over the events of what happened at school while I was doing track and field.”

Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington, 44, was a devout athlete for much of his early life, and that dedication didn’t fade as his school week rolled around and he found himself competing in the Pacific School Games instead of partying.

However, it seems Shirvo had the last laugh over his high school sweetheart, with whom he now shares daughters Sienna, 17, Winter, 15, and five-year-old son Lincoln.

While his author wife was partying with her friends to celebrate the end of their final high school exams, Shirvo got into some fun weekend activities.

‘I stayed in Coogee and stayed with this wonderful family who took me cable water skiing and dirt bike riding. It was mean,” he said.

The enduring couple met when they were just 17 years old and later went on to get married and start a family together.

But things quickly change for the high school sweethearts, as Shirvo’s new top job as David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s replacement at Sunrise has sparked some serious talk in their personal lives.

The breakfast show’s new anchor recently revealed the strict boundaries he imposed on his family ahead of his first day co-hosting Sunrise on Monday morning.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Shirvo said he needs to make some changes in his family household and have a chat with Jessica about the way he speaks about their three children on the air.
