I was pronounced ‘DEAD’ for three minutes after suffering heatstroke

What happens when we die remains a mystery.

But now a 36-year-old woman has shared her own fascinating experience of the afterlife.

Jade, from Wisconsin, was declared technically ‘dead’ for three minutes after being knocked down with what she describes as heat stroke.

She said her body felt like it was “shrinking” in the 32C sun until suddenly everything went “black.”

Describing her near-death ordeal, which took place in 2011, Jade said, “That’s when I knew I was about to die.”

Jade – whose last name is unknown – shared her story on TikTok, where it has been viewed almost 200,000 times.

Her experience happened while visiting a friend in the “unbearable” heat.

Before she fell on a couch, she felt nauseous, dizzy and had a dry mouth — telltale signs of heat stroke, a life-threatening complication of overheating.

What is Heat Stroke?

Heat stroke is where the body is no longer able to cool itself and a person’s body temperature becomes dangerously high due to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Common symptoms are:

  • Confusion, altered mental status, slurred speech
  • Not sweating – a sign of dehydration
  • Loss of consciousness, incoherence
  • Hot, dry skin or heavy sweating
  • To attack
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Very high body temperature
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Fast, strong pulse

When heat stroke occurs, body temperature can rise to 106°F (41°C) or higher within 10 to 15 minutes. Heat stroke can cause permanent disability or death if the person does not receive emergency treatment.

In rare cases, it can cause cardiac arrest.

While sitting on the couch, Jade remembers slumped over and making gurgling noises.

She said, “Everything must be done in a few moments.

But it felt like much longer and this deep sense of total illness hit me like a ton of bricks.

“My head felt like it was swelling, but my whole body like it was getting smaller. I had never known anything like it before.

“It made me totally okay with dying because I wanted to sleep forever.”

Jade added, “Then everything went black and that’s when I knew I was about to die.”

Jade was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she claimed she was brought back to life with a defibrillator.

Defibrillators are used for cardiac arrest patients, where the sharp shock restores the heartbeat. Though Jade didn’t explicitly state that this is what she was experiencing.

Cardiac arrest is often considered “clinical death” because the heart stops beating, cutting off blood supply to the brain.

Jade said she was rushed to hospital, where medics reportedly told her she was three minutes dead when she arrived. She spent four days there.

Jade was born with Wolff-Parkinson-White and postural tachycardia syndrome, two conditions that can cause an increased heart rate.

She believes they were a contributing factor to her near-death experience.

After she shared her story online, many viewers claimed they had gone through the same thing.

“I passed out TWICE that summer,” said one person.

Another commented, “I was pregnant that summer. The heat was terrible!!!’

Your story was very interesting. Glad you’re safe,” another person added.

Lauren said, “Was it scary? What did you see? I really panic at the thought of death.’

“The thought of dying scares me so much I couldn’t even keep listening to this,” commented one user. [sic]
