I Squat Over The Seat When I Use Public Toilets To Avoid Germs — But Some People Say It’s A Disgusting Habit

A mom has sparked a hilarious debate online after revealing that she crouches over the toilet seat when using public toilets.

The unnamed woman took to the British parenting website Mumsnetand explained that she floats over toilet bowls when she takes a “long pee” in public.

She said when she did this last weekend, she first wondered if she was in the act alone.

The anonymous mother wondered if she was “extra germ conscious” and if she had to wipe the chair like everyone else.

However, her curiosity was soon mocked as more than 400 hilarious comments poured in.

The woman wrote: “I was out this weekend and had to go to the toilet to pee.

“I normally vacuum above the toilet seat to pee in public restrooms and I thought to myself, this is hard, especially when I have to pee for a long time.

“Is this what most women do too or am I extra germ conscious and should I just wipe the chair and sit down?”

“Sorry if it’s too much information, but I’m just curious.”

Many others were stunned by her revelation and confessed that they would never squat over the toilet seat in public.

One of them said, ‘I never float above the chair. I haven’t caught anything horrific yet.”

A second added: “The problem with the hoverers is the splatter that usually gets left on the seat.

“Please wipe it off as I find it even grittier having to clean previous users.”

She went to Mumsnet to look up other women hovering around the toilet instead, so as not to expose herself to 'germs'

A third agreed: “Women hovering over the toilet seat usually pee on it, making it unpleasant for the next person.”

“Wipe down if necessary and sit down!”

A fourth said: ‘It’s a bit plastic. Just sit on it. I do not see the problem. Then wash your hands’.

Another added: ‘I just don’t understand the hysteria around public toilets.

“I sit down and, shock horror, don’t wipe the chair. If they’re particularly grim, I might even use antibacterial gel on my hands after I wash them, but I’m not generally that fussy.

“I have an immune system.”

One commented, “Hovering is how people end up p******** all over the seat. It’s dirty and disgusting.’

NHS doctor Dr Preethi Daniel previously revealed that you cannot catch a urine infection by using a public toilet, but your behavior while using the public bathroom could cause you to catch an infection.

All that crouching and hovering to avoid touching the toilet seat can lead to a urinary tract infection.

By emptying your bladder quickly or by squatting, you expose your body to potentially harmful bacteria.

This, in turn, can increase your chances of getting a urinary tract infection.

The NHS further adds that crouching over the toilet while urinating can prevent your bladder from emptying completely.

They advise sitting properly on the toilet and not hovering above the seat.

The same advice applies to men who empty their bladder better when they sit down to urinate instead of standing up.

In addition, make sure your feet are on the floor to help your bladder and if the toilet seat is too high, opt for a footstool under your feet.

You can also rest your hands on your knees and relax your stomach while breathing into your lower abdomen.

Also, learn to relax your pelvic floor muscles when urinating, as this will help you empty your bladder.
