Michael Schumacher has ‘family only’ rule on visits, put in place by wife Corinna

Eddie Jordan has claimed his plans to visit Michael Schumacher’s home were vetoed by the seven-time Formula One champion’s wife Corinna.  

Schumacher suffered a skiing accident in December 2013 and was placed into a medically induced coma.

He was brought to the family’s Lake Geneva home in September 2014 where a team of medical staff now support Corinna in looking after the 53-year-old.

Jordan, who is loosely connected to the Schumacher family, has now claimed he attempted to pay the stricken driver a visit, only to see his request denied.  

‘Corinna [Schumacher, Michael’s wife], was at one stage a girlfriend of our driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who later left and went on to marry Schumacher,’ Jordan told the Irish Daily Mirror.

‘So, there was connection and I reached out and at one stage asked was it appropriate and did I think we should go and visit him?

‘The answer was no. No visitations for anyone at that moment except the actual direct family.

‘However, since then, young Mick Schumacher – Michael’s son – has reached out to me, and he has been extraordinary.’

Schumacher’s medical condition remains private at his family’s wishes and so few details ever emerge on the current state of his condition. 

But ex-FIA president Jean Todt, who detailed in May 2021 that he makes two visits a month to see Schumacher, has revealed the German is ‘in the best hands’ with the medical team he has working at his home.

Todt told German publication Bild: ‘I’m happy that the fans, not only in Germany, think of him so much.

‘People ask so much about Michael. The fans should know that he is in the best of hands.

‘In the best situation, he can be and surrounded by people who love him.’

Schumacher and Todt have long been close having enjoyed a successful relationship at Ferrari – where the German driver won an unprecedented five consecutive world titles between 2000 and 2004. 

It has been revealed that the pair watch Formula One races together when Todt visits.

Back in July, Todt joined Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, and daughter, Gina, to collect the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia in Cologne on behalf of the former Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes racer. 

It is the highest civilian honour available to those born within the region and can be awarded to anyone who has made an outstanding contribution to the world.

The ceremony took place in Cologne, around six kilometres from Hurth, where Schumacher and his brother Ralf were born.
