Has Darfur become the main battleground of Sudan’s conflict?

Fighting in Sudan has sparked a new wave of violence in Darfur, raising fears of further escalation.

The Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been fighting for nearly two months.

Millions of people have been affected.

But this latest battle now threatens to reignite decades-old tensions in the western region of Darfur.

Doctors Without Borders says hundreds of civilians have died there since violence broke out in April.

The fighting started around the capital Khartoum, but has since spread to many areas in the country.

Darfur has become one of the most important battlefields.

People in the region say several militias have targeted civilians, and some have warned of massacres.

Thousands of people have moved to neighboring Chad to escape the violence.

What is behind this increase in conflict?
