Redfall gets first major patch after its misfire release

redfallthe open-world first-person shooter that was poorly received last month has received its first major update today.

Notably, the patch doesn’t add the 60fps performance mode that was absent for Xbox players at launch. In the patch notesdeveloper Arkane Austin said it plans to share more information about the graphics mode soon and continue to fix as much as possible as soon as possible.

Version 1.1 brings “incremental improvements to gameplay, combat, AI, environment, stability, multiplayer, accessibility, UI, and various bug fixes,” according to the patch notes on Bethesda’s site. Arkane also specifically mentions the following areas for improvement:

Reactivity of enemy AI

Enemy encounter frequency

Vampire battle efficiency

Graphics fidelity improvements

The patch notes also outline a host of improvements and additions redfall‘s accessibility options, including screen narration for social features such as invites, friend requests, and joining a multiplayer lobby.

As a sequel to redfall‘s launch, which received negative reviews from critics and players alike, Xbox head Phil Spencer called the release “disappointing”. He also said that Xbox and Arkane have “a good timeline” for the addition of the 60fps performance mode; it remains to be seen when that will come to fruition.

We said so in our review redfall was “too soaked up with vibrancy” to merit our investment. It also ruined the legacy of Arkane Studios, a developer long known for creating immersive first-person games with strong elements of player choice. Arkane seems to be leaning hard on the “incremental” label in the new update’s patch notes, meaning that while neither the developer nor Xbox is giving up on their plans to support the game any time soon, more than one patch will probably be needed to the biggest patch to fix problems.
