‘He had the body’: Sylvester Stallone reflects on past rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger as he declares the actor was the ‘superior’ action star
Sylvester Stallone said his former rival Arnold Schwarzenegger was the “superior” action star when he appeared in the bodybuilding champ’s Netflix docuseries.
Despite “really” hating each other at the beginning of their respective careers, the Rocky star, 76, reflected on how he and the 75-year-old Terminator actor had “different acting styles.”
‘He was superior. He just had all the answers,” he said of Schwarzenegger. ‘He had the body. He had the power. That was his character.’
The father of five noted that the fierce competition between them arose when they both aspired to become the “definitive action guy” of the 1980s.
“Until then, action was a car chase like Bullitt or The French Connection, and a movie that revolves around intellect and innuendo and verbal this and verbal that,” Stallone said.

Stallone continued, “You basically relied on your body to tell the story.”
Dialogue was not necessary. I saw that there was an opportunity, because no one else was doing this… except another guy from Austria, who doesn’t have to say much,” the Oscar nominee recalled.
Both men enjoyed thriving careers as action stars in the 1980s, resulting in a bitter rivalry between them.
Last year, Stallone admitted that they “couldn’t stand being together in the same galaxy for a while” during a 2022 interview on The Jonathan Ross Show.
Sylvester claimed that Arnold even “tricked” him into starring in the comedy Stop! Or my mother will shoot.
However, he managed to poke fun at Arnie’s own widely maligned 1994 film Juniro, saying, “At least I wasn’t pregnant in a movie, Arnold.” We’re even.”
In more recent decades, the pair have settled into friendly comparison, even starring together in two Expendables movies and the 2013 movie Escape Plan.
In November, Schwarzenegger is “very wise and likes to talk about philosophies.”

Friendly: In October, the Hollywood stars went viral after they shared a photo from their pumpkin-carving competition
“It’s good to talk to a guy who really put his money where his mouth is and he’s achieved that,” Stallone said. “Then we start acting silly and acting silly — just laughing at the old times. I said to him, “We are the last two tyrannosaurs.” We’re the last two carnivores and there’s not much beef left. So we better enjoy each other.’
Last year, Stallone teased that Schwarzenegger would make a cameo on his upcoming reality show, The Family Stallone, as well as former California donkey governor Lulu.

He posted the original Instagram photo on Oct. 18, which got fans buzzing with an image of himself with Arnie holding huge knives over their pumpkins.
