When the going gets tough, the toughest go… and New York Mets fans certainly applied this popular phrase during the team’s seventh straight loss in Pittsburgh.

On Friday night, footage of fans in the stands at PNC Park surfaced on Twitter as the Mets were obliterated by the Pirates in a 14-7 blowout.

Fans from both teams along the stadium’s first base line are seen shoving each other before things got nasty as punches were thrown, as the game was in progress with the Mets at bat.

As the fight continued, a fan in a black Mets jersey, who had been part of the brawl when it initially broke out, returned from a line behind where the fight was taking place. He came back in the thick of the action with a right-handed punch.

Halfway through the footage, however, it looks like stadium security has finally put an end to the scuffle for good.

A fight between Mets and Pirates fans erupted in the stands during Pittsburgh’s 14-7 win Friday

It’s unclear what started the fight, though a seven-loss loss on the bounce for the Mets appears to be a factor, with the team’s slide being the longest since losing seven straight in June 2019.

Mets manager Buck Showalter tried to highlight the positive after the team placed Pete Alonso, whose 22 home runs lead the Majors, on the injured list Friday due to a bone contusion and sprain in his left wrist.

Still, even Showalter admitted that it “looked like” New York took the field against Pittsburgh, still stinging from a winless trip to Atlanta.
