Grant Williams had surgery on his left hand on Friday but is expected back in time for training camp, the Celtics announced.

Boston said the procedure was to “repair a tear of the radial collateral ligament of the third metacarpophalangeal joint on his left hand.”

Williams is expected to be sidelined by the procedure for six to eight weeks, putting him on track to be ready for training camp, which kicks off on September 27 for all teams this season.

According to ESPNWilliams suffered the hand injury in March, but played through the injury as the Celtics fell one win short of the NBA Finals.

Boston worked its way back from an 0-3 hole vs. Miami to force a Game 7 at home in the Eastern Conference Finals, but was eliminated as the Heat won 103-84.

Williams was instrumental for the Celtics in the regular season, averaging 25.9 minutes per game and averaging 8.1 points per game.

In the playoffs, he saw less time on the field—only 17.7 minutes per game—but he provided valuable space for Boston as he shot 45 percent from three-point range.

After playing out his four-year, $11.8 million rookie contract, Williams is a restricted free agent, meaning Boston has the option of matching any offer sheet the 24-year-old signs with another team.

With teammate Jaylen Brown eligible to sign a $295 million “supermax” extension this off-season, the Celtics could choose to let Williams walk and look for cheaper three-and-D options.
