Mystery as Grace Tame quietly removes Instagram post hailing Brittany Higgins ‘a national hero’

Grace Tame deleted an Instagram post stating that Brittany Higgins was “a national hero” and that the former political staffer was a “warrior” and “my friend.”

The sexual assault survivor made national headlines when she wrote the post on Brittany Higgins’ birthday last year, but it has now mysteriously disappeared from her social media page.

The rousing post, which was an emotional tribute to the former Liberal staffer, denounced what Ms Tame called a “treacherous nationwide character assassination campaign” against Ms Higgins, saying her “boyfriend” had faced with ‘layered injustice’ and ‘relentless criticism’.

Posted with a striking photo of the two women taken during a magazine cover, the 2021 Australian of the Year wrote “Happy birthday, dear Brittany. warrior. Human. My friend.

Brittany Higgins has taken every step of her excruciating journey under a microscope; with a nation breathing down its neck. This is no sinecure.

“I am impressed and floored by her intelligence, kindness, vulnerability and determination to continue to fight for herself and others in the face of prolonged, layered injustice and heightened relentless criticism,” Ms. Tame wrote.

Grace Tame’s powerhouse denounced the “treacherous nationwide character assassination campaign” against Brittany Higgins, calling her “a national hero.” The message has been deleted.

Ms Tame’s post dated 7 December 2022, which has now disappeared from any stories about it linked to her Instagram page, supported Ms Higgins as she spent her 28th birthday in a Queensland psychiatric clinic.

Ms Higgins entered the clinic within a week after prosecutors announced they were dropping a second trial against her former colleague Bruce Lehrmann, who she alleged raped her in 2019.

Last Sunday, Mr Lehrmann appeared on television to speak publicly for the first time outside a courtroom, reiterating his denial of Ms Higgins’ allegations and giving his account of what happened at Parliament House on the night in question.

Since then, controversy has erupted over the actions of politicians, Mrs Higgins’ partner David Sharaz, Channel 10 TV star Lisa Wilkinson and others involved in the Higgins saga.

Daily Mail Australia asked Ms Tame why the post was removed and whether it is related to the current controversy.

In the now-deleted post, Ms Tame wrote: ‘I am not a judge or a jury, but I am someone who has also repeatedly walked into the line of fire – often alone – and it is not for the faint hearted.

It is not for this reason that I support Brittany, however. Just because she’s a decent person. I support Brittany because I feel sorry for her.

“High speed devices simultaneously reduce our collective attention span, desensitize us to delicate content and push our boundaries.

The aftermath of shock in online spaces often feels like a virtual stampede that leaves the subjects alone in the dust. I’ve seen this happen to Britt repeatedly.

“Anyone who says words can’t do serious damage has never been the target of an insidious nationwide character assassination campaign like Brittany.”

Ms Tame said at the time that over an 18-month period in which both women were the focus of a national conversation, she had come to know Ms Higgins “like a good friend” and had the “honour of seeing a side of her that I rarely see” . see in digital or print media’.

Grace Tame’s Instagram account has at least three more posts referencing Ms Higgins, including an image of the cover of Marie Claire magazine for women, posted in November 2021.

The women also appear in a photo taken at the National Press Club, posted by Ms. Tame last February and praised by followers of Ms. Tame, one of whom wrote, “Grace and Brittany: Thank you for your opinion.” .

In an earlier post that still lives on Grace Tame’s Instagram page, she wrote alongside an image of a lighthouse and choppy seas that “speaking up demands incredible attention and I hope justice is served.”

The post is dated one day after Ms Higgins’ allegations were made public on February 15, 2021.
