Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita completes move to Werder Bremen on a three-year deal after leaving Anfield on a free transfer

  • Naby Keita is transferring from Liverpool to Werder Bremen on a transfer basis
  • The 28-year-old attacker signs a three-year contract that runs until June 2026
  • He only started two Premier League games this season, largely due to injury

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer after a three-year contract with the German club.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter on Friday to announce the news with the player already undergoing his medical tests.

‘Official, completed. Naby Keita is new Werder Bremen player on a free deal!’ He wrote.

Keita joined from RB Leipzig in 2017 for a fee of £48 million and made 129 appearances in five seasons, scoring 11 goals and seven assists.

During that time he helped his side win every trophy available, the Reds claimed the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup each on one occasion.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Jurgen Klopp, but has only started two Premier League games this season, largely due to two serious injuries.

The Reds are clearly in need of a major rebuild after what has been a bitterly disappointing campaign and Keita could be one of many to make way.

The news comes after Liverpool finalized the signing of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister on Thursday.

Keita was given a guard of honor after Liverpool’s final home game of the season against Aston Villa.
